When Should I Schedule a Well Inspection?

When Should I Schedule a Well Inspection?

When Should I schedule a well inspection?

The routine inspection of a water well system will help ensure your well is operating properly, prolong its useful life, and protect your investment. One of the most important reasons to get your well inspected is it can protect your health, by discovering issues that could result in water quality problems that put you and your family at risk.

Wells should be evaluated annually including a bacterial test, by a licensed or certified water well systems professional. Spring or Early Summer following a rainy period, is the best time of year to get your well inspected.  Here at  AAA Well and Pump we have decades of experience and take pride in all of our routine services. Drinking water should be checked any time there is a change in taste, odor or appearance, or when the well system is serviced. Well owners should regularly examine the area above the ground surface over the well. If any of the following issues are discovered, contact us immediately to investigate:

  • Casing (pipe protruding from the ground)—Check the general condition and check if the casing extends at least 12 inches above the ground.
  • Well cap (cap on top of casing)—Check the condition of the cap and any seals, make sure that it is securely attached.
  • Electrical conduit (if present)—Visually verify that all connections are secure.

Keep hazardous chemicals, such as paint, fertilizer, pesticides, and motor oil far away from your well. Keep your well records in a safe place. These include the construction report, as well as annual water well system maintenance and water testing results.

Be aware of changes in your well, the area around your well, or the water it provides.

When you’re well has come to the end of its serviceable life (usually 20+ years), have a qualified water well contractor decommission it after constructing your new system. Early summer is one of the best times for your annual well inspection to be conducted.
